kisses & hugs

Two years ago when my grandson, Liam, was making his first trip to our Letton family reunion at the beach, I decided to make him a "beach wardrobe"...appliqued onsies with cute beacy motifs. This year, since he is such a big boy now...all of two!...I added in a toy to go with each t-shirt. It is so much fun being creative for this little guy.

You can see some of the other ones I've done on the "kisses & hugs" page

Independence Day on St. Simon's Island: Our Georgia Experience

Our first real art show was a great success! Everyone loved our art and we got a lot of encouragment. The show took place under the Live Oaks in Mallery Park...the weather was beautiful and the people were friendly and welcoming.

Actually, it was an educational experience for us. We had no idea how much information we could gleen from fellow artisans. They were all so eager to share their wealth of experience and now we have lists of shows to research and apply to. Yeah!!!

We have some great pictures of the show and a few of the 4-footed friends we met. Donna got to be a judge for the golf cart parade...last year they had 5 carts and this year they had 40, all decorated for the 4th.

So now we are ready to jump into the world of art shows. We'll keep you posted on how we are doing.

It was a great Fourth of July!

creation inspiration

For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work, at the works of your hands I sing for joy.
Psalm 92:3-5

You don't have to look far to get inspired...how about your backyard? Sunrise yesterday morning was just magnificent and look at how creative God was in designing these dill flowers that have now gone to seed. They are like little miniature fireworks or a perfectly balanced mobile.

Debora Makes a Discovery

My new interest has come as a bit of a surprise. Collecting Tillandsia. Growing up in the south I had my first introduction to Tillandsia but I wasn't aware of it.  You see, the spanish moss  we saw hanging from the big oak trees was a tillandsia ... better known as an airplant.  The beautiful oaks on the Georgia islands wore their tillandsia so gracefully. (Doesn't Tillandsia sound a bit more interesting than airplant?) On a trip to south Florida this past winter I saw a little airplant hanging on a pine.  I plucked it and gave it a new home in north Florida.  It was a few weeks later at the Down Town Market that Donna and I met a young man that was also fascinated with this plant and introduced us to other varieties.  His fascination was contagious.  We purchased several of these cute little plants and then we purchased a couple more the next week. Donna's husband spotted them growing on a dead tree outside a restaurant where they were eating. The owner said to take as many as they wanted. Today Donna and I were at the DMV and what do you know...there they were on the oak trees in the parking lot. I'm on the lookout for these little plants and my collection is growing. Now there's a little family of Tillandsia hanging around our decks.

Sopchoppy Art Market

For those of you who have never heard of Sopchoppy, you have missed a north Florida experience.

Today we were part of The Frog and The Hummingbird Co and Butterfield Roadhouse Open Art Market. It was the first of a monthly market. The attendance wasn't great, but we are hoping for it to grow as the word gets out. It was fun getting to know the locals and to meet other artists in the area. We will post pictures soon.

Post-art show....success!

Mary, Debora, and Donna...adding memories to the 25 years of friendship

Our first art show was a great success.  Fifteen of  Donna's birds 'flew the coop'.  Debora's tiny art was a hit along with the notecards.

Thank you to all our customers and the positive response we received.  We hope the birds and paper art are adding joy to your day.

Debora made quite a few new 4-legged friends.  No surprise!  Their pics will be posted for you to enjoy.

hopin' to fly the coop

Debora and I are doing our first art show for paper(ish) this Saturday at Seaside on the Florida panhandle. We've got lots of stuff to sell and are hoping to have a good day. We'll let you know.
